IDEAS: For things to do
$5.00

Creating for the sake of creating, without a goal in mind is new to me. Giving myself space to play with ideas through unfamiliar forms has been healing. These forms included writing a manuscript for a very personal book, hours of studying West African dance, painting a series of vessels, making psychedelic collages and being intentional about experiencing what is right in front of me. I wasn’t focused on producing anything specific.

Altering the pace of my life helped. Allowing myself to spend hours of uninterrupted time in a mental fantasy space built a juicy softness and flexibility, right for creating without judgment.

Spending my time differently, noticing details in a new way and observing the sensation of existing with a less regimented mindset led to many different ideas for ways to spend my time.

My first tangible piece to come out of this period is fittingly called IDEAS: for things to do. IDEAS is presented intentionally in a loose format that I hope to continue to create under.

It’s comprised of eight low-key mini adventures that anyone can replicate or riff off of to experience the beauty of what exists in front of you. My short writings begin with some ideas about how to prepare, where to go, and then, offer a mindset to consider.

These adventures are just a small survey of ways I’ve spent time over the last year. Noticing the world around me, using the resources in front of me, making small moments special, being in my body, connecting with community and remembering how much beauty we can access in the smallest moment if we teach ourselves to look for it.

The format is casual… Fold this thing up, put it in your backpack, keep it in your glove compartment, tape it to the back of your bathroom door, roll it up and put it in your fanny pack.

IDEAS is a digital product that can be downloaded and color-printed double-sided on paper of your choice and folded like a map for easy use.

Enjoy Life Poster
$25.00

This poster was created to take the "should" out of being healthy and demonstrates a return to joyful self care. What started as a playful re-imagining of the stale USDA MyPlate (as used in the California Department of Public Health programs) turned into a collection of simple everyday ways to express our natural right to health and happiness. The poster is 11'“ x 17” and looks great tacked to the wall or elegantly framed. Wendy has been a public health nutrition educator for over ten years, primarily working with communities in rural northern California. Exceptionally talented graphic artist, Lea Carey brought the message to life with her playful illustrations.

Moon Cycle Wisdom Calendar
$20.00

After using the basic generic period calendar, Wendy ruminated, wouldn’t it be nice to have a better looking version of this thing? Something you don’t mind hanging on the bathroom wall? Or tucking in your nightstand? She mentioned it to Bella while they were at the baby gym, and the idea took root.

Of course apps exist for tracking your cycle, but we are fairly certain nobody wants another reason to pick up their phone. While an app relies on data to tell you how you're feeling, moon cycle wisdom is an invitation to notice and understand your unique rhythms on a deeper level.

We created this calendar as a way to honor your cycle, all parts of it. The cycles of your body are not an inconvenience. Remember those commercials in the 1990s where women just use a tampon or take an Advil and go play tennis (in a white tennis skirt no less) or ball bust in the boardroom?

It feels tired to portray menstruation as a nuisance to just deal with while you go about your day, as though nothing is happening. Something IS happening and there are many benefits to practicing self-care specific to each menstrual phase.

Tracking your menstrual cycle alongside the lunar cycle is an ancient practice that grounds you to the rhythms of the natural world. There are four phases of the lunar cycle and four phases of the menstrual cycle that reflect distinct similarities. Over the course of four weeks, (on average) our hormones fluctuate with amazing changes that influence everything from energy, to work productivity, creativity, metabolism, immune health, and more. Beginning to learn about your unique menstrual relationship to the moon cycle can be as simple as noticing what phase the moon is in during your period.

This calendar can be started and used at anytime in the year and does not need to begin in January.

We All Love the Yuba PSA

This Public Service Announcement was created to acknowledge that so many love the Yuba River. It is a place of peace and renewal for many. It is a place for fun and socializing for many, and of course a place to connect with and appreciate the natural world.

Visiting a new place sometimes comes with unspoken rules that may not be obvious at first. This PSA is a friendly way to help visitors and Yuba lovers understand how to “love the Yuba like a local“.

Please feel free to download and print this for yourself, friends, your Airbnb, hotel, restaurant, shop or business to encourage positive river stewardship.

This PSA content was a creative collaboration between Wendy Van Wagner, designer and Nikiya Schwarz (Sanctuary Collective). They brought Wyatt Hersey on to create the visual story. Wyatt is an illustrator, painter, and muralist based in Chico, CA.

ABOUT EXTRA PRO

Extra Pro started in 2015 as two girlfriends’ (Wendy Van Wagner and Cassie McGettigan) way to raise awareness with joyful graphics and design, then donate a portion of sales to worthwhile organizations doing good in the world.

After spending some wintry months co-living and admiring the Yuba River, we created our inaugural Extra Pro item: a classic tourist T-shirt celebrating the Yuba, as vital and inspiring as any of the world's great rivers. Bear Yuba Land Trust and South Yuba Citizens League (SYRCL) have been loyal stewards of the river for many years and it feels right to donate a portion of sales to help keep them doing the good work they do.

Over time, Extra Pro has become a place to share new projects that Wendy and other wonderful collaborators have dreamt into being. It is a goal to be able to continue to donate to non-profits and projects that are supporting the work of environmental justice and health equity locally and throughout the United States.
